Obedience - Novice

Ring Ready Novice Obedience - 5:00 PM

Ready to compete! Ring Ready is an opportunity for handlers and their dogs to have a simulated obedience ring experience. In this class you will have the opportunity to practice a "trial like" competition obedience experience. In a trial like situation, students will have the opportunity to practice the judged exercises in each class. The instructor will be available to provide feedback and offer training suggestions to improve your ring readiness, approximately ten minutes per dog. 

This class is for those preparing for AKC Beginner Novice (BN), or Novice (CD) Companion Dog trials. 

Prerequisite: Dog and handler MUST ALREADY KNOW all the exercises required to compete in obedience trials.  

Equipment:

  • All collars are acceptable, except no e-collars
  • 6 foot leash, NO retractable leashes

 

Cancellation/Refund Policy: 

  1. Cancellation of a class for any reason BEFORE the first class date of a  session will be refunded minus our coursestorm and credit card fees (currently about $13)
  2. There are NO REFUNDS for any cancellations AFTER the first class of a session.
  3. There will be NO REFUNDS or pro-rating for any classes missed after the start date of the first class of any given session.
  4. Transfers to a more skill appropriate class in the same session before or after the class start date may be possible with approval and subject to space availability. Please contact us. 

Novice I - 6:00 PM

The Novice class is intended for those handlers who wish to perfect their obedience exercises beyond the Canine Good Citizen level. The class is aimed at Beginner Novice (BN) and AKC Novice Companion Dog (CD) handlers. The Novice class will cover on-leash heeling and figure of eight, as well as off-leash heeling. In addition, the recall exercise, the BN "leave your dog and walk around the ring", and sit and stand for exam are included. Students will practice group sits and downs (1 minute each), and "handler leave your dog to get your leash".  The goal of this class is to teach exercises that lead to getting the AKC Beginner Novice title. This class often is repeated.  

Prerequisite: Beginners and/or Intermediate.  This class is more advanced than Intermediate/CGC and introduces off-lead recalls along with finishes.

Novice II - 7:00 PM

Take your skills to the next level.  The Novice class is intended for those handlers who wish to perfect their obedience exercises beyond the Canine Good Citizen level. The class is aimed at Beginner Novice (BN) and AKC Novice Companion Dog (CD) handlers. The Novice class will cover off-leash heeling and figure eight. In addition, the recall exercise, the BN "leave your dog and walk around the ring", and sit and stand for exam are included. Students will practice group sits and downs (1 minute each), and "handler leave your dog to get your leash". The class may be repeated as needed. 

Prerequisite: Approval of the instructor.  The handler should know all of the exercises included in Novice 1, heel on leash with figure eight and off leash recall plus finishes, stand for exam, heel free, sit stay and get your leash, as well as group sit and down stays.  This class prepares a dog for the Novice class that can earn the Companion Dog (CD) title.  This class is usually repeated.
